  • Youth classes are designed for children 7-12 yrs with no prior karate experience. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join and train with their child as they begin their education in this martial art. Our dojo is not focused on belts or trophies or becoming tough or invincible, we are a community of people who are dedicated to their training.

  • Kaizen Dojo's Okinawan Kobudo program is open to dojo and non-dojo members. The classes are available to anyone ages 13 and up with prior karate and/ or martial arts experience. Our training system includes bosainunchaku, tonfa, eku  and tekko.

    Dojo Excursion to Okinawa

    Our next trip to Okinawa as a group will take place in July 2019 - the Tesshinkan international embutaikai. The objectives of the event event will be to:
    - explore and celebrate Okinawan culture and history
    - further our study and exploration of Okinawan Karate and Kobudo
    - celebrate Tamayose Sensei's 70th birthday.

    Details will be added as the date gets closer - save the date now! Note: the excursion is listed as a two-week event. You are welcome to attend if you can stay a week, two or even three!

    Hatsugeiko

    Hatsugeiko (初稽古 ) first training of the year.

    Classes resume on January 3 at the Gold Bar Community League Hall, regular times apply.

    Karate classes will focus on basics and requirements for grading.

     

    Kobudo classes will focus on kihon and kata

    October 26, 2018

    Well, the 100 Kata for Karate event 2018 is in the books! We had a total of 10 people on the floor last night for varying periods of time. The core group of six made it through 3.5 hours of class (OK, so it took a bit longer than planned and someone *me* cannot count properly in terms of establishing rest breaks.) In total, we have raised just south of $1000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.     100 Kata for ACF

    How can a kata help cure cancer? Again this year, the dojo will be taking part in the international 100 Kata for Kaarte Day event. While the event will take place during the adult class, all students of the dojo are encouraged to participate.Students from other dojo are also welcome to join our event. This is also a fundraiser for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Please donate in person or online - all proceeds go to the ACF.

    Classes now at Gold Bar Community Hall

    We are pleased to announce that we are now a community program through the Gold Bar Community League. Our mission and focus remain the same: we continue to offer quality instruction at an affordable price. For information, check out the fees and classes pages. Classes are every Thursday evening at the hall.  This is a terrific space to train, and we are very excited to be their first martial arts program.
